The QS World University Rankings 2018 feature 45 German universities as the world’s best. 12 of them represent the country in the Top 200, showcasing the high quality of education available.

1. Technical University of Munich (TUM):
Located in the capital of Bavaria, Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München), also known as TUM, was founded in 1868 and is a member of the TU9, an association of nine of Germany’s most prestigious technical universities. Ranked 64th globally and 70th for graduate employability, TUM has 14 academic departments and 40,124 students, of which around 24% are international. It calls itself The Entrepreneurial University and aims to foster a supportive environment for budding entrepreneurs. Not only that, Germany’s highest ranked university is also one of its most innovative. 2. University of Munich (Ludwig Maximilian University):
Located in the heart of Munich, LMU is recognised as one of Europe’s premier academic and research institutions. Founded in 1472, the university is one of the oldest in the country. Ranked 66th globally and 92nd for graduate employability, the university places an emphasis on the natural sciences such as biology and physics, while other top subjects include space science and medicine. 3. Heidelberg University:

4. Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT):
Ranked 107th in the world and 30th for graduate employability, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, also known as Karlsruher Institut für Technologie or KIT, is located in the south-west city of Karlsruhe and considered particularly prestigious for its engineering and technology programs. Home to 25,892 students, the universities main research areas include energy, mobility and information. It also runs a Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship which provides free advice and resources to students and alumni seeking to start their own business.
5. Humboldt University (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin):
Consistently Berlin’s highest-ranked university, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or Humboldt University is ranked 120th in the world and between 201-250 for graduate employability. The university is considered particularly prestigious for arts and humanities subjects, achieving 35th place in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017 for this subject area. Alma mater to influential thinkers like Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, institution’s academic clout is evidenced by the fact that it has educated no fewer than 29 Nobel Prize winners, including a prize for physics, literature and economics.
6. Freie Universität Berlin:
Ranked joint 125th globally alongside Belgium’s University of Ghent and between 251-300 for graduate employability, Freie Universität Berlin is an outstanding, future-oriented institution in Germany’s world-renowned academic landscape. Repeatedly selected as one of the country’s Universities of Excellence, it has an acclaimed international orientation, interdisciplinary approach, and commitment to social responsibility. 7. Frankfurt School of Finance and Management:

8. RWTH Aachen University:
Ranked 141st in the world and 90th for graduate employability, RWTH Aachen University is the largest university of technology in Germany and one of the most renowned in Europe, with around 44,500 students enrolled. The engineering focus of the university is associated with the natural sciences and medicine. The arts, social sciences and economics, structurally linked to the core disciplines, also make a significant contribution to the university’s teaching and research profile. With its 260 institutes in nine faculties, RWTH Aachen is among the leading European scientific and research institutions. 9. Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin):
Located in Germany’s capital, TU Berlin, ranked 144th globally and 78th for global employability, is renowned internationally. With almost 34,500 students, around 100 course offerings and 40 institutes, it is one of Germany’s largest technical universities. Further the university is a member of TU9, which is the alliance of nine of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. This membership allows for student exchanges between many of the engineering schools. No wonder why TU Berlin graduates are one of the most sought after by employers.
10. University of Tübingen:
Ranked joint 164th in the world and in the band of 251-300 for graduate employability, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen or the University of Tübingen is one of the oldest German universities, founded in 1477. Today it has around 28,300 students and is considered particularly prestigious for subjects such as theology, German studies and medicine. The University’s academic reputation is further enhanced by the research achievements of more than 400 professors and about 2000 academic staff.
