One year MBA programs have often been considered an anomaly: a shortcut to an MBA, often relegated to older individuals who are not always looking for a dramatic career shift. However, with the recent surge of top MBA programs including INSEAD, LBS, and other European schools dominating the MBA rankings game and many domestic US schools offering 1 year versions of their own program, one year MBAs have gained in popularity.

Belittled as a quickie, one-year full-time MBA programs are not the same thing as the traditional postgraduate management programs offered by IIM and the likes. But they are ideal for professionals who are budget-conscious, and don’t have much time for business fundamentals courses of the traditional course, since they may already have an undergraduate management education or significant amount of business exposure.

3. HEC Paris: Since its founding in 1881 by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, HEC Paris has become one of the most selective graduate schools in Europe. Its alumni have gone on to run Fortune Global 500 companies like Best Buy, Havas, Michelin, and L’Oréal.The famous institution is among the most selective of the grandes écoles, and for good reason. Along with Harvard, it tops the polls in terms of employability and also comes first for diversity – with an international student rate of 92%.

At $ 78,000 it is one of the best value business schools with 89% of its graduates finding employment within three months of graduation with an average salary of $97,846.

7. Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University: The one-year MBA course at Kellogg School of Management is one of the most reputed and prestigious program to get into. Starting in June, experiential learning and world-class faculty are the highlights of the one-year Kellogg MBA, along with the flexibility it provides students to overstep core courses and go straight to the electives that are in tune with their future plans.

8. Imperial College, London: Imperial College’s MBA can be called ‘Imperial’in the truest sense as it is accredited by the holy trinity of AMBA, EQUIS & AACSB. IMD trains 8,000 executives each year, with over 70% of alumni in upper-management positions, and at board and/or committee level. Post-graduation, 79% of students are employed within three months, with an average salary of US$156,648, representing an increase of 81%.

SDA Bocconi, Italy: The SDA Bocconi Full-Time MBA (Master of Business Administration) is a one-year program with a practical and innovative curriculum, catering to the realities of the marketplace by encouraging students to go beyond conventional business models through creative thinking and responsible problem-solving.
